So, that’s just what I did – in the end, I got bald, deep under-debt and stressed out.

As a child, I really studied like there was no tomorrow.

Nothing bad about it because I kind of enjoyed it.

I consistently made it to the group of achievers in our class.

At one time, because I really did well in class, I even became the youngest mayor (yes, officially) of our city, San Juan.

I carried my good study habits ‘till college; even earned double degrees at the University of the Philippines – Business Management and Economics.

And You Know What Happened After College?

Yep, I went to get a job.

And just like what my parents told me, I poured my time, effort and energy in my career.

So, naturally, I did well. To the point of breaking sales records in our company, one after another.

At mid-twenties, I already got bald because of too much stress.

I wasn’t happy anymore… and most certainly, I was not getting any closer to being wealthy.

I quit my job and started a restaurant business. I encouraged friends to invest with me. Within a year, we had 3 branches and had no signs of stopping.

BUT…

I Got Drowned and Blinded by Success

My relationship with my business partners did not go well. Aside from overspending and overindulging, I became carelessly over trusting and later on got betrayed.

Our business sank.

I got deeply buried in debt and my so-called friends started disappearing on me.

At my most desperate moment, I had to break open my piggy bank just so I could eat.

My morale was at an all-time low.

I was cracking inside.

I was feeling so little I couldn’t look at people straight in the eye.

My 2 college degrees couldn’t save me at that point – no money, no friends, no spirit.

But One Ordinary Day, My Life Changed Forever

By some weird intervention of fate, I was able to interview Jack Canfield, best-selling author of “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and“The Success Principles.” It was through a writing job I had to do for the biggest newspaper in the country.

We talked up-close and personal.

At first, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing from the guy.

What he was saying about how to get rich and successful were the OPPOSITE of what I learned from school.

He wasn’t making any sense in my world. No, no, no – not at all.

But since I got nothing to lose, I put my pride down and followed his advice. These were ideas that I never heard during the long years I spent in school.
